Police in Sheema District are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the lives of two people.
The accident occurred on 07/03/2025 at Mabanga Cell, Kabwohe, along the Bushenyi-Mbarara Road in Sheema District.
The crash involved a white Toyota Hurrier, registration number UBF 355D, driven by Joseph Bwengye, 46, a teacher and resident of Rwishamiro Cell, Kanyeganyegye, Masheruka Town, Sheema District.
According to the police, Simon Atwiine, 47, the rider of a red Bajaj motorcycle, registration number UEZ 066K, and a resident of Rwanyinakaheire Cell, Rwamujojo Ward, Sheema Central Division in Sheema Municipality, along with an unidentified passenger, lost their lives.
It is alleged that the motor vehicle was traveling from Bushenyi towards Mbarara when it collided with the motorcycle, which was coming from the opposite direction.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident, stating that the driver lost control of the vehicle and drifted into the opposite lane, critically injuring both the rider and the passenger.
Both victims were rushed to Kabwohe Health Centre IV and later referred to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital, but unfortunately, they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
