Two passengers have been confirmed to have died after a Kanungu board Perfect bus registration number UBF O52G was involved in a fatal accident.
According to ASP Twaha Kasirye, the greater Masaka police traffic commander the accident in the wee hours of Thursday in Lwengo along Masaka-Mbarara road.
The deceased have been identified as Shimon Musinguzi 28 years and a 1 year and 8 months old baby Erist John Witington.
The mother of the baby identified as Pale Mary also sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital for emergency treatment.
It’s alleged that the bus was traveling from Kampala to Kanungu when it reached Nkoko stage -Katovu the unknown Motor vehicle loaded with Matooke with full lights on was coming from Mbarara side to Masaka side and it left its left lane and crossed to the right lane and the driver of the bus in the process of avoiding head-on collision lost control and went off the road and overturned in the valley hence killing two passengers on spot and injuring 17 passengers
The accident was blamed on the excessively bright headlights and high beam headlights from the speeding lorry truck.
The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Lyantonde Health Center IV mortuary for postmortem and several other passengers who sustained injuries were also rushed to different facilities for treatment.
