Two boda boda riders lost their lives in a tragic road accident that occurred at around 9:30 PM at Rukoro village along the Kisoro-Bunagana road.
The deceased have been identified as Irankunda Ivan, 32, a resident of Gafurizo village in Karambi parish, Nyarubuye sub-county, and Hafashimana Edward, a resident of Rukundo Town Council in Kisoro district. The victims were riding motorcycles with registration numbers UES 919S and UET 873J, respectively—both Bajaj Boxer models.
According to preliminary police investigations, the two riders were approaching each other from opposite directions at high speed and collided head-on while riding in the middle of the road. Irankunda Ivan died on the spot, while Hafashimana Edward succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at Mutorele Hospital.
Police officers led by Sgt Mbabazi James visited the scene, documented the incident, and recovered the motorcycles, which have been parked at Kisoro Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles (IOV). Postmortems for the deceased had not yet been conducted at the time of reporting.
The suspected cause of the accident is reckless riding and speeding, but investigations are ongoing.
