Police in Rubirizi District have initiated an investigation into the tragic incident where a 21-year-old man took his own life by hanging.

The Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, Marcial Tumusiime, has confirmed the incident, identifying the deceased as Deus Kiiza, a 21-year-old peasant residing in Nyakatunga II cell, Mugyera Parish, Katanda Sub County in Rubirizi District.

According to Tumusiime, on December 5, 2023, the deceased left home around 9:00 AM for Katerera Town and later returned to his residence where he lived with his sisters. Subsequently, he moved away, leading his sisters to assume he had gone to his own house. Unfortunately, they discovered him hanging dead with a rope in the sitting room of his mother’s house.

Julius Katarihwa, 48, the Chairman Lc1 of Nyakatunga cell, revealed that the deceased had been making threats to harm his mother and other family members. Allegedly, this was due to their intervention in preventing him from selling the family land.

Tumusiime mentioned that the deceased had a history of substance abuse, including drugs and alcohol, which had contributed to the destabilization of his family. The postmortem process is underway at Rugazi Health Center IV, and the police are actively conducting inquiries into the case.
