In a shocking turn of events, tragedy befell the quiet community of Nyarurambi in Kasheshe parish, Buyanja sub-county, Rukungiri district, as a 53-year-old woman, Bainenama Olivia, was found brutally murdered in her own home on the evening of December 11, 2023.

The incident unfolded around 1800hrs when Mugisha Abel, the deceased’s husband, returned home after grazing his goats. Earlier that day, Olivia had asked her husband for money to buy hens, to which he gave her 40,000=. She went to Kasheshe trading center, purchased two hens, and brought them home.

Upon Abel’s return, he discovered the lifeless body of his wife in the kitchen, with injuries inflicted by an unknown assailant. The devastated husband immediately contacted the couple’s daughter, Akandwanaho Edwin, who promptly reported the gruesome murder to the Rukungiri Central Police Station.

Law enforcement swiftly responded, registering the case as Murder under Rukungiri SD Reference 46/11/12/2023. The crime scene was meticulously examined by the Division Scenes of Crime Officer (D/SOCO), homicide staff, Criminal Investigation Officer (CIO), and Community Liaison Officer (CLO). Statements were recorded from pertinent witnesses, shedding light on the sequence of events leading to the discovery of Olivia’s lifeless body.

During the investigation, a chilling discovery was made as a bloodied panga, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered from the scene. The authorities have secured the weapon as a crucial piece of evidence in their ongoing inquiry.

The deceased’s body was respectfully transported to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary, awaiting a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

As the Rukungiri District Police intensifies efforts to unravel the mystery surrounding this heinous crime, the community is left in shock and mourning, grappling with the loss of Bainenama Olivia. The identity of the perpetrator remains unknown, and investigators are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward and assist in bringing the assailant to justice.
