Tragedy struck in Rukungiri as a fatal accident claimed the life of a 26-year-old volunteer, identified as Austin Abaho, who served at Nyakibale hospital. The incident occurred during the late hours of Saturday, as Abaho was returning home on his motorcycle bearing registration number UDY 134Y.
According to reports from the territorial police, Abaho left Nyakibale hospital at approximately 01:25, headed towards his residence in Kebison Town council. The unfortunate accident transpired at a location known as Katogo, where Abaho reportedly lost control of his motorcycle after hitting a pothole.
Subsequently, he collided with a metallic side road guard, resulting in a fatal fall. Tragically, Abaho, who was alone on the motorcycle, succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
Law enforcement authorities were promptly notified, leading to the visitation and documentation of the accident scene. The deceased’s body was later transported to Nyakibale hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, the motorcycle involved in the accident was secured at the Rukungiri Central Police Station pending inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
As investigations into the incident unfold, the community mourns the loss of Austin Abaho, a dedicated volunteer whose life was cut short in a tragic accident on his journey home.
