In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, the lifeless body of Mujukye Innocent, a 20-year-old resident of Rwamarengye cell, Rwamugoma Parish, Ruhinda sub-county, was discovered on the morning of November 28th, 2023, in a tree plantation at Kirundo cell.

The grim discovery was made by school pupils passing through the area around 8:00 a.m. on their way to school.

The young victim, identified as a Munyankole by tribe, had reportedly fallen victim to a brutal act of mob violence the previous night, marking a tragic turn of events. Mujurizi Kanyamukwara, a 56-year-old Munyankole and the chairperson of LC 2 Rwamugoma Parish, was informed of the shocking find by the LC 1 chairperson, Katwiremu Alphonse.

Kanyamukwara promptly reported the incident to the authorities at Ruhinda police station, initiating a murder investigation. The police, led by the Division Scenes of Crime Officer (D/SOCO), Division Criminal Investigation Officer (D/CIO), Division Criminal Intelligence and Detection Officer (D/CIDO), along with a team of homicide detectives, visited the crime scene to conduct a thorough examination.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Mujukye Innocent had been a victim of a mob attack, but as of now, no suspects have been apprehended. The case has been officially registered at Ruhinda police station under SD REF: 04/28/11/2023 as a “murder by mob.”

The deceased’s body has been conveyed to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary, pending a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. As the community grapples with the shocking loss of a young life, inquiries into the incident are ongoing, with local authorities urging anyone with information to come forward and assist in bringing those responsible to justice.

The tragic event has raised concerns about the prevalence of mob violence in the area, prompting a broader conversation on community safety and the need for preventive measures to avoid such senseless acts in the future.
