Police in Sheema District are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding a tragic accident that claimed the life of a four-month-old infant. The incident took place on December 5, 2023, at approximately 9:00 pm at Kooga, the border between Mbarara and Sheema Districts.

Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the incident and provided details. According to Tumusiime, the accident involved a motor vehicle with registration number UAW 931D, a Toyota Premio, driven by an as-yet-unidentified individual.

Tumusiime explained that the driver, who was traveling from Mbarara to Kabwohe along the Mbarara-Bushenyi highway, lost control of the vehicle near Kooga and veered into a stream filled with water. While other occupants of the car sustained minor injuries and were rescued, a male infant was tragically washed away from the maid’s hands and into the water.

Despite ongoing efforts, the retrieval of the infant’s body has proven challenging. The search continues, and the vehicle involved in the accident is currently parked at the Sheema police yard awaiting inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles (IOV).
