Tragedy struck the quiet Kakokye village in Maziba town Council, Kabale district, on Friday afternoon, as a motor grader, with registration number UG2009w, became the center of a heartbreaking incident.

The driver, identified as Rwehahira Deogratias, a 54-year-old resident of Nyakijumba southern division in Kabale municipality, found himself entangled in a grim turn of events that claimed the life of a 12-year-old boy.

The victim, Nahwera Rauben, a male juvenile and pupil at Mukokye Primary School, lost his life in a tragic accident while the motor grader was undertaking road grading work. According to reports, the children of the area had been following the grader as it worked on the road from Mukokye to Kahondo.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when one of the children, unbeknownst to the driver, attached himself to the grader. As the vehicle started to reverse, a noise alerted the driver to the presence of the children. Upon stopping, he was informed by the others that he had inadvertently knocked down their friend, Nahwera Rauben.

The local authorities were swiftly notified, and Police Constable Musamba visited the scene. Following the preliminary investigation, a postmortem examination was conducted, confirming the tragic demise of the 12-year-old. The body was subsequently handed over to the grieving family for burial arrangements.

Rwehahira Deogratias, the driver of the motor grader, is currently on police bond as further inquiries into the incident are underway.
