Police in Rukungiri are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding an attack on Erigio Mugyenyi, a 59-year-old security guard employed by Millennium Security Company Ltd.

The incident involved an unidentified assailant who assaulted Mugyenyi, causing injuries, and stole his pump-action gun (UG PSO 07318-03821) along with one round of ammunition.

The incident reportedly occurred on January 19, 2024, at approximately 01:00 AM while Mugyenyi was on duty at Bwangu Investment Mukwano Depot within Rukungiri municipality. He was attacked and struck on the head multiple times with a large stone. Subsequently, he lost consciousness and wandered aimlessly. Mugyenyi’s colleague, Besima Pancrasio, who was guarding nearby, discovered him staggering on the road with his shirt stained with blood.

Upon inquiry, Mugyenyi informed Besima that he had been assaulted, and when asked about the location of his gun, he mentioned leaving it covered with a box where he had been resting.

Besima provided Mugyenyi with first aid and then attempted to secure the missing gun but was unsuccessful. Besima promptly informed their supervisor, Eria Tumwesigye, who reported the incident to CPS Rukungiri for further action.

Police visited the scene, documenting it carefully, and collected relevant statements, including Mugyenyi’s account. A large stone with blood stains, a head dress, and a black backpack were recovered as exhibits.

According to Mugyenyi’s statement, he was approached by an individual claiming to be a staff member of Millennium Security Company Ltd working in Ishaka Bushenyi. The person requested to spend the night, and while Mugyenyi was resting, he was unexpectedly attacked.

Mugyenyi suspects that the person who approached him is likely the assailant responsible for the attack and theft of the gun.

The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to recover the stolen firearm.

Mugyenyi is currently admitted and handcuffed at Case Clinic for medical treatment.
