In a shocking incident that unfolded in the quiet hours of Friday, at approximately 11:30 PM in Ruyayo village, Kihihi town council, Kanungu district, an act of arson targeted the residence of Ndyabahaki Ronald, a 24-year-old student at YMCA Wandegeya and the son of Hon Byaruhanga Frank, the District Speaker of Kanungu.

As Ronald peacefully slept at their home alongside his friend, Mwesigye Anthony, a loud bang jolted them awake. Rushing outside, they were met with a distressing sight – their motor vehicle, bearing the registration number UAX 023S, engulfed in flames. Two unidentified men were seen hastily fleeing from the scene, leaving behind chaos and destruction.

In a swift response, Ronald and Anthony raised an alarm and quickly cut off the power supply to prevent further escalation. Despite their courageous efforts to combat the fire with water and sand, the flames had already taken hold, causing substantial damage to the vehicle.

Law enforcement authorities were immediately alerted, and a team of detectives and the scene of crime officers (Socco) from Kihihi, led by Asp Tumikunde Emmanuel, the officer in charge of the Kihihi police station, swiftly arrived at the location. The police cordoned off the scene for investigation.

In an attempt to trace the perpetrators, a police canine (sniffer dog) was brought in, but regrettably, no positive leads were uncovered. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, and police inquiries are actively ongoing.

The motive behind this shocking act remains unclear, raising concerns in the community and prompting heightened security measures.

The attack has left the local community deeply unsettled, emphasizing the need for a prompt resolution to this disturbing crime.
