In a devastating incident that unfolded Wednesday at 09:50 AM along the Kabale Katuna road, a hit-and-run accident has left the community of Kitumba in shock and mourning.
The motor vehicle involved, a black Fuso Fighter with registration UBN753S, reportedly struck three individuals as it was heading from Kabale town towards Katuna. Among the victims was 10-year-old Turiina Mariam, a resident of Kitumba sub-county in Kabale district, who tragically lost her life in the collision.
Eyewitnesses claim that the driver, who remains unidentified and is currently on the run, allegedly hit the group of pedestrians near Kitumba. Instead of stopping to render assistance or report the incident, the driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle later in an undisclosed location.
Law enforcement authorities swiftly responded to the incident.
The police visited the scene, documented the details, and towed the vehicle to the Kabale police station, where it awaits further investigation. The body of the deceased was transported to Rushoroza hospital for postmortem examination.
As the community grapples with the loss, inquiries are underway to identify and apprehend the driver responsible for this tragic hit-and-run.
