Traders in Omukarere Ruruku trading center, located in Northern A Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, have come together to address security concerns in their area.

The decision was made during a security meeting held on Monday, April 8th, 2024, chaired by Behimbisa Topher, also known as Science, the Western Division Councilor representing Northern A Ward. The meeting was organized by the trading center security committee, led by Murisa Godius Kamiro.

During the meeting, traders expressed frustration over prevalent issues such as drug abuse, theft, gambling, and alcoholism. To tackle these challenges, they resolved to enforce rules and regulations, including imposing a curfew starting at midnight, launching a campaign to apprehend wrongdoers, and conducting regular patrols.

The meeting was attended by the chairpersons of various areas, including the Cells of Kibale, Kafunda, Ruhega, and Mutara in both Western and Eastern Divisions. Muriisa Godius Kamiro, Chairperson of the Security Committee, emphasized the need to combat crimes and theft effectively and expressed readiness to launch a general campaign against suspects.

Bajuuzi Tumwesigye, Chairperson of the Rukungiri Municipality Boda Boda Association, urged people to support their efforts to eliminate non-registered Boda Boda riders who flout rules and regulations. Similarly, Bamanyisa Christopher Kashaija, the Municipal Councilor representing Kyatoko Ward, encouraged traders to enact bylaws and report offenders for action.

Behimbisa Topher Science and Tumwesigye William, Chairperson LC2 of Northern A Ward, attributed the security situation to a lack of honesty among traders. Twinomugisha Sylvia Katimbira, Chairperson LC3 of Western Division, urged traders to prioritize the welfare of their trading center, as it is their own community.
