Police in Ntungamo District are investigating a fatal road accident that claimed three lives and left six others injured on Sunday morning.

The crash occurred at around 8:30 a.m. along Rwekiniro Road in Kayenje when a Fuso truck, registration number UAT 371G, reportedly lost control and overturned. The vehicle was traveling from Ntungamo towards Rwekiniro, carrying market vendors and their luggage.

According to police, the deceased have been identified as Mukiibi Hakim, 62, Muhoozi Mustafa, and Muzafari Kireema, all passengers on the truck. They died instantly at the scene.

Six other passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment. Authorities say efforts are ongoing to confirm the specific hospitals where the victims were taken.

The bodies of the deceased were conveyed to Itojo Hospital mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Police spokesperson SP Kasasira Samson of the Rwizi Region confirmed that the suspected cause of the accident is reckless driving. The driver of the truck fled the scene and is currently on the run.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing as police continue the search for the driver.
