The Kanungu Territorial Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the murder of 64-year-old Scovia Nyiramahoro, a resident of Rukarara Cell, Rwanga Ward, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District. Nyiramahoro’s body was discovered on July 26, 2024, at approximately 08:00 hours.
The suspects are Muhumuza Boaz, 54, from Rwamuhima Cell, Kyamakanda Parish, Buyanja Sub-County, Rukungiri District, Ndindwamukama Nelson, 24, a cook at Rovens Hotel in Kihihi Town Council and resident of Kyandago Cell, Rutendero Parish, Kayonza Sub-County, Kanungu District and Matsiko Justus, 34, a bodaboda rider from Rwenyerere B Cell, Bihomborwa Ward, Kihihi Town Council, Kanungu District.
According to reports, on July 25, 2024, Nyiramahoro, who was staying with her 13-year-old grandson Ahumuza Chrispas, went to bed after supper. The following morning, Chrispas woke up at 06:00 hours, found his grandmother missing, and left for school, leaving the house open with a broken window.
Neighbor Alex, who was expecting to receive 40,000 UGX for fresh coffee from Nyiramahoro, arrived in the morning to find the house empty. Upon discovering that no one answered his calls, he went behind the house, found the broken window, an open door, and the house in disarray.
Alex informed the area chairman, who inspected the house and subsequently contacted Nyiramahoro’s son, Karenzi Denis. Denis then reported the incident to the police.
The crime scene was investigated and documented. Significant injuries were observed on Nyiramahoro’s head, and her body was found lying in her bed. A post-mortem was conducted at Kihihi HC IV, and the body was taken for burial.
Inquiries are ongoing.
