Grief and solemnity filled Kashenyi Church of Uganda in Kashenyi Archdeaconry, North Kigezi Diocese, as thousands gathered to bid farewell to Kaaka Eva Bweerere.

Eva Bweerere, aged 83, passed away due to cardiac failure. She was a mother of 14 children—three of whom predeceased her—and is survived by 11 children, 21 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren.

During the funeral service, her daughter, Madam Busingye Margaret Bashaija, described her as a loving mother, a mentor, and a principled disciplinarian who touched many lives. She praised her mother’s unwavering love, commitment to development, and integrity. She also expressed deep gratitude to all those who stood with the family and honored her mother during the send-off.

In his sermon, Rev. Amatsiko Niwegariho, Dean of Emmanuel Cathedral Kinyasaano, encouraged Christians to remain firm in their faith, especially during challenging moments. He urged them not to be led by bodily desires, reminding them that the physical body remains behind after death. He emphasized the importance of love over hatred, noting that kindness strengthens communities in difficult times. Rev. Amatsiko also remembered the deceased as a strong supporter of church activities.

The Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese, Rt. Rev. Canon Frederick Jackson Baalwa, who accompanied the bereaved family, described Kaaka Eva Bweerere as a valuable and impactful woman who lived a purposeful life. He commended her contributions to the Church of Uganda and her positive influence on others. He urged the congregation to follow her example, reminding them that everyone lives under God’s mercy and that every life has its time.

Kaaka Eva Bweerere was laid to rest at her ancestral home in Kashenyi Parish, Ruhinda Subcounty, Rukungiri District.

The burial ceremony was attended by many dignitaries, including members of the Judiciary such as Justice Dr. Andrew Bashaija, her son-in-law, Justice Suzan Okalany, and several others who came to pay their last respects.
