The territorial police in Rukungiri are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 46-year-old Nelson Arinaitwe, also known as Kidudu, a resident of Rugoma Cell, Ruyonza Parish, Nyarushanje Sub-County, Rukungiri District.
It is alleged that on the night of September 6, 2024, in Katungu Cell, Kahoko Parish, Nyakishenyi Sub-County, unknown individuals stole a pig belonging to Mutesigensi Saini. After discovering the theft, Mutesigensi made announcements on Boona FM while continuing his search for the stolen pig.
On September 26, 2024, around 3:00 PM, the area LC3 councillor for Ruyonza Parish informed Mutesigensi that his pig had been found in the possession of Nelson Arinaitwe. Mutesigensi rushed to Rugoma Cell, where he found Arinaitwe tied up and severely beaten, lying beside the stolen pig at Omukarere Trading Centre.
Arinaitwe, along with the pig as an exhibit, was taken to Rubabo Police Station. However, due to his deteriorating health, the officer in charge of the station took him to God’s Care Centre Clinic, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The police visited the scene, documented evidence, and recorded statements from relevant witnesses. Arinaitwe’s body was transported to Rwakabengo Health Centre III Mortuary for a postmortem examination, and investigations are ongoing.
ASP Elly Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and stated that inquiries are still in progress.
