Students at Bishop Comboni College have introduced innovative methods to restore the green environment and diversify usable resources.
Nyijukire Justine, the teacher leading the environment club, shared that these demonstration activities take place on every Environment Day, aiming to create a greener and smarter environment.
During the recent demonstration, students showcased various techniques, such as using bottles as construction materials and for irrigation. Others were actively involved in watering, planting, maintaining, and cleaning the existing green spaces.
In interviews, students highlighted the benefits of their efforts. One student explained that restoring the environment has provided them with abundant oxygen and reduced pollution. Another student noted that learning about the environment and biodiversity has sharpened their intelligence, enabling them to innovate and explore new techniques in science and technology.
The school has also advocated for planting a variety of trees, including fruit trees like mangoes, guavas, avocados, tomatoes, and oranges, as well as medicinal plants such as Prunus Africana (omumba), hibiscus, graviola (ekitafeeri), and neem trees.
This initiative not only enhances the school’s green spaces but also equips students with valuable skills and knowledge in environmental conservation and sustainability.
