Hundreds of Christians from St. Luke’s Kahoko Mitooma Church of Uganda, part of the Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry in the North Kigezi Diocese, gathered yesterday to bid farewell to Venerable Canon Eldard Kashanje, who has served the archdeaconry for many years.
During the service, Ven. Kashanje reflected on his journey, noting that he began his service with the Church of Uganda in 1983, marking a dedicated 41 years of service. He mentioned that he has now reached the age of 65, the typical retirement age for reverends in the Church of Uganda.
Ven. Kashanje expressed his gratitude to God for His guidance throughout his service, despite the challenges he faced. He urged the congregation at St. Luke’s Kahoko Mitooma Church to warmly welcome the new archdeacon who will succeed him in Nyakagyeme.
He also advised younger reverends to plan for their retirement while actively serving, emphasizing the importance of securing a place of residence for their later years.
Kham Kirakurate, the head of the laity at the church, praised Ven. Kashanje for his efforts to elevate the church to parish status and his support during this transition. He highlighted Ven. Kashanje’s significant role in fostering revival in both Nyakagyeme Archdeaconry and St. Luke’s Kahoko Mitooma Church.
Rev. Edson Nabaasa, a servant of the church, commended Ven. Kashanje for his dedication and enthusiasm in strengthening the Christians’ relationship with God. He noted that Ven. Kashanje was supportive of anyone desiring to serve God and played a crucial role in his own journey to becoming a reverend deacon.
