The deteriorating state of infrastructure at St. Jude Primary School in Kitumba Sub-county, Ndorwa West County, Kabale District, is putting the safety and education of more than 500 pupils in jeopardy, raising urgent concerns among parents and local leaders.

The school is grappling with dilapidated buildings, overcrowded classrooms, broken latrines, and a severe shortage of desks, turning learning into a daily struggle.

Abigail Ahorimukama, the school’s head girl, described the learning environment as uncomfortable and unhealthy. She said that the classrooms are overcrowded, with cracked floors that allow fleas to breed.

The Head Teacher, Steven Akahuriira Kushaba, added that the school is also battling a shortage of teachers. Despite these persistent challenges, he noted that the school continues to strive for academic improvement.

The Kitumba Sub-county Vice Chairman, Amani Abaribabariho, acknowledged the crisis and said that local leadership is working on strategies to support the struggling school.

In response to the dire situation, Counsel Eliab Naturinda, an education advocate in the area, through his network of friends, has donated UGX 20 million, 50 desks, and 20 bags of cement to ease overcrowding and improve learning conditions.

Counsel Naturinda said that he was moved to act after the school management shared their struggles.

St. Jude Primary School, an annex of Katenga Primary School, serves a population of over 500 learners in Kitumba Sub-county.
