St. Gerald’s Senior Secondary School held its annual sports day celebration with a strong call to students to maintain discipline and actively participate in sports for better academic and personal growth.

The event, graced by the PTA Chairman Henry Byarugaba as the chief guest, attracted participation from students across all classes who competed in various sporting activities such as athletics, shot put, and high jump. At the end of the competitions, Blue House emerged overall winners with 415 points, followed by Green House with 339 points.

In his remarks, Mr. Byarugaba emphasized the importance of discipline and calmness among students, noting that these virtues are key to achieving academic excellence. He also praised the role of sports in shaping talent, highlighting that engaging in games can open opportunities beyond school life. He commended the students for upholding discipline and retaining the school’s glory over the past two years and assured them of continued support from parents in nurturing their talents.

The Head Teacher, Mr. Cleophas Agaba, thanked both the staff and students for making the day a success and recognized the role of sports in promoting health, talent development, and access to academic opportunities such as scholarships. He encouraged students to maintain the same level of discipline and commitment as they prepare for district competitions.

Games teacher Mr. Johnson Mugisha also appreciated the stakeholders for their support and confirmed the school’s readiness for the upcoming Rukungiri District Ball 2 Championship scheduled for Saturday at the Rukungiri Main Stadium.

Outstanding student athletes Betty Nduhikyire and Anthony Isaac Niwahereza, who were recognized as sportswoman and sportsman of the day respectively, expressed gratitude to the school administration for supporting their talents and providing a platform to grow through sports. They encouraged fellow students to embrace games as a way of refreshing their minds and unlocking opportunities.
