St Augustine High Mass Choir Hiika Town emerged the overall winners of the 2025 Christmas Carols Choir Music Festival held at Christ the King Parish.

The competition attracted choirs from all hiikas across Christ the King Parish, Nyakibale Deanery, Kabale Diocese, with a total of 20 choirs participating.

St Augustine High Mass Choir Hiika Town took first position, followed by St Denis Choir Hiika Town in second position, while Kahoko Hiika Choir and Rushasha Hiika Choir jointly took third position.

The victory was celebrated with joy, cheers, and excitement at the Christ the King Parish grounds in Rukungiri Municipality, as members of the winning choir received applause from Christians and invited guests.

Amutuhaire Emmanuel, the Chairperson for Choir Leaders at Christ the King Parish, applauded all choir masters for their dedication in training choir members and actively participating in the Christmas Carols Festival. He urged them to maintain the same spirit, noting that it would continue to uplift and improve church singing across the parish.

Hon. Gen. Henry Tumukunde, the NRM flag bearer for Rukungiri Municipality, thanked the parish priest for consistently organizing carols that bring together Christians from all corners of Christ the King Parish. He also commended the choirs for their spiritually enriching performances.

Gen. Tumukunde praised Christians for building a magnificent church but encouraged them to keep the momentum by also constructing a decent priests’ house to enable priests to continue serving God comfortably. He further urged the public to celebrate the festive season responsibly in preparation for the year 2026.

Speaking on behalf of Hon. Mary Paula Turyahikayo Kebirungi, the NRM flag bearer for Woman MP Rukungiri District, Counsel Emmanuel Ndakwenda thanked the Christ the King Parish Priest for organizing the carols, which foster unity and demonstrate God’s love among Christians. He encouraged believers to promote peace in their communities and to celebrate the festive season safely and responsibly.

Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, the Minister for Security and Member of Parliament for Rujumbura Constituency, expressed gratitude to Christians of Christ the King Parish for their commitment to church development. He commended the annual carols for bringing together people across the parish to share singing experiences and nurture talent.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Vianney Byaruhanga, thanked all the choirs that participated in the festival. Quoting St Augustine, he noted that “those who sing pray twice” and encouraged choirs to continue taking part in such events that strengthen unity and faith among Christians.
