Police in Sheema District have launched an investigation into a homicide involving a 70-year-old man allegedly murdered by his son.

The incident occurred on May 7, 2024, at approximately 8:30 PM in Kyabahija 2 cell, Kakindo town council, Sheema District. Marcial Tumusiime, the spokesperson for the Greater Bushenyi Police, confirmed the event and identified the victim as Tiburisiyo Bitwire, aged 70, a resident peasant at the aforementioned address.

Tumusiime also identified the suspect as Julius Bitwire, aged 28, who works as a bodaboda rider. It is reported that on May 6, 2024, the suspect stole coffee belonging to his father. The father reported the theft to the Kakindo police station, prompting officers to attempt an arrest the following day. However, the suspect evaded capture and went into hiding.

Subsequently, on the same day, at around 8:50 PM, the suspect returned while the deceased was having supper with his grandchildren. Allegedly, the suspect grabbed a machete and fatally attacked his father.

Tumusiime stated that the victim’s body was transported to Kabwohe Health Centre IV, and investigations are ongoing. Efforts to apprehend the suspect are currently underway.
