Police in Bushenyi District have arrested six individuals on suspicion of murder by assault.
The incident occurred on May 26, 2024, around 5:30 AM in Rwentuha Town, along Kyeizooba Road near KAGS Bar and Lodges, Rwentuha Town Council, Bushenyi District.
Marcial Tumusiime, the Greater Bushenyi police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and identified the deceased as Johnson Twinomujuni, a 16-year-old casual worker and resident of Rugunga village, Rwentuha Ward, Rwentuha Town Council, Bushenyi District.
According to reports, on May 26, 2024, Twinomujuni was drinking with his friend Brighton Nuwagira at KAGS Bar and Lodges. A misunderstanding arose between the two, and witnesses saw Nuwagira assaulting Twinomujuni and dragging him out of the bar to the roadside, approximately 50 meters away.
Residents later observed Twinomujuni falling to the ground, with Nuwagira subsequently turning him over and declaring that he was dead.
David Kigundu, a 45-year-old farmer who reported the incident to the police, stated that the deceased’s body was found lying face-up about five meters from a pool of what appeared to be human blood.
Tumusiime stated that Nuwagira and five barmaids working at KAGS Bar and Lodges were arrested to assist the police with their investigation. He added that the deceased had a deep wound on the left side of his chest, likely inflicted by a sharp object (probably a knife). The body was taken to Kampala International University Teaching Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
