Residents of Nyakabungo in Kanungu District are counting their losses after a severe rainstorm accompanied by strong winds wreaked havoc on their properties and gardens. Led by Komwani Erias, their district councilor, the residents expressed their grief as they surveyed the damage to their gardens across different cells. They consoled each other amidst the devastation, seeking solace in community support.

Expressing concern for the affected areas, Councillor Komwani Erias highlighted the extent of the damage in cells such as Karubanda, Rwabikondo Bushekwe, Buhungiro, Nyakabungo, Nyarubingo, and Kishororo. The destruction encompassed banana plantations, maize fields, bean crops, two houses, and a bridge connecting Kishororo and Nyarubingo cells. Additionally, a pit latrine at Kashojwa Cou was also damaged in the disaster.

Eng. Sam Kajojo, the LC5 chairperson, acknowledged the gravity of the situation. He stated that he had already escalated the matter to the disaster preparedness offices, urging the affected residents to exercise patience as they await assistance. The community remains hopeful for prompt intervention from government authorities to aid in their recovery efforts.
