Rotarian Steven Nsubuga Bewayo, the Rukungiri Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has urged individuals to actively monitor and take ownership of government projects, emphasizing that they are funded by taxpayers’ money. His remarks came during the inauguration of the construction of Kanywamajuta Bridge in Mutara Cell, Karangaro Ward, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, with a budget of 45,174,000/= (forty-five million one hundred seventy-four thousand shillings).

Expressing concern, Rotarian Steven Nsubuga Bewayo highlighted that while launches introduce government projects, some people fail to oversee and sustain them, despite being funded by citizens’ contributions for service delivery.

Mzee Charles Makuru, the Mayor of Rukungiri Municipal Council, commended the government for the project’s provision and criticized substandard service providers for the premature collapse of Kanywamajuta Bridge.

Nuwamanya Robert, the Town Clerk of Rukungiri Municipal Council, praised the collaborative efforts of the Rukungiri District Roads Committee, led by Chairperson Hon Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, in ensuring quality roads and bridges. He stressed the importance of accountability in ensuring value for money, particularly in engineering works.

Twinomugisha Sylvia Katimbira, the Chairperson of LC3 Western Division, thanked the Municipal Council for prioritizing the safety of residents’ lives and urged locals to monitor the construction work to ensure high-quality results and prevent mismanagement of funds.

Kekiijo Merynah, the Engineer of Rukungiri Municipal Council, detailed the Bills of Quantities (BOQs) supporting the use of metallic culverts, costing 45,174,000/=, and emphasized the need for public cooperation to achieve quality work.
