President Yoweri Museveni has called on church leaders to sensitize and teach people the value of self-reliance and honesty to preserve the nation from infiltration by the current global moral decadence.

Museveni says the church is a very important conduit for attitude change toward development.

This was part of his message delivered by the Vice-president Rtd Maj Jessica Alupo Epel at the consecration of Rt Rev Onesimus Asiimwe as the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi Diocese at Emmanuel cathedral Kinyasaano in Rukungiri District

The president who is currently in Algiers on a 3-day state visit says the government needs to work together with the church to combat, disease, and corruption, and provide the country with a moral compass.

He noted that there is a need for revival in the churches and society today, adding that the church is facing an erosion of moral standards as the revival fires are not burning vigorously today as they were in the past.

He commiserated with North Kigezi diocese and the family of the late Bishop Benon Magezi for the loss of a father and shepherd during the covid 19 pandemic in 2021

President Museveni congratulated Rt Rev Onesmus Asiimwe upon his election as the 6th Bishop of North Kigezi diocese saying the Lord has chosen him to lead his church into the sacred path of righteousness
