Scouts in Nyakagyeme have been encouraged to love their country and Africa as a fundamental step towards achieving peace.

These remarks were made by the Minister of Security, Hon. Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi, yesterday during the closing ceremony of a two-day scouts camp for Nyakagyeme Sub-county primary schools, held at Kasoroza Playground.

According to Muhwezi, many Ugandans in the past sacrificed their lives to achieve the peace being experienced today. He noted that many of these individuals were trained and motivated in scouting clubs, which played a crucial role in their success during the liberation war.

He urged the scouts to be patriots, committed to fighting sectarianism and segregation based on tribe and religion in their respective areas.

Minister Muhwezi thanked the organizers of the scouts’ camp for their efforts in holding these events despite the financial challenges faced by their schools. He contributed 2 million UGX towards the transport expenses of the participating schools.

Godson Mubagizi, the Nyakagyeme Sub-county Chairperson, thanked the schools that managed to participate, despite the low turnout. He called upon other schools to join in next time.

Deus Twinomugisha, the Rukungiri District Executive Commissioner of Scouts, announced that three top schools were selected for both girls and boys to participate in the national scouts competitions in Kampala. He thanked the head teachers of the ten schools who sacrificed from their limited budgets to allow their students to attend the sub-county level scouts camp. This message was conveyed during the commissioning of patriotic students from five secondary schools in Moyo District.

The selected girls’ schools are Kahoko, Masya, and Mashongora Primary Schools, while the selected boys’ schools are Kyabugashe, Masya, and Mashongora Primary Schools.
