As we mark one week since the commencement of the second term following the reopening of schools, various school administrators have reported a surge in enrollment compared to figures from 2023.

In a mini survey conducted by our reporter across different primary and secondary schools, it was observed that senior one students have officially commenced their studies today.

Sabiti Epaphras, the head teacher of Makobore High School, disclosed that they have admitted over 200 students in senior one, with over 75 senior students already present and more expected to join in the coming days. He noted that the school’s enrollment has doubled compared to the previous year, with a current student population exceeding 300.

Arthur Byaruhanga Muchope, head teacher of Buhunga Primary School in Buhunga sub-county, stated that 97% of his pupils have already reported to school, emphasizing that those who are still at home are wasting their time while serious studies are ongoing.

Canon Wycliffe Mackey Twinomujuni, head teacher of Kashenyi Secondary School in Ruhinda sub-county, reported that 70% of his students have returned to school and urged parents to send the remaining students back to school to keep pace with their peers.

Dan Byabashaija, head teacher of Nyakinoni Secondary School in Kanungu district, revealed that after one week, the school has registered 1045 students excluding senior five, attributing the increase to parental cooperation and commitment to early school attendance. He assured that the school is prepared to deliver quality education to all students.

According to the Ministry of Education and Sports calendar, the first term, which commenced on February 5, 2024, is scheduled to conclude on May 3, 2024, spanning a total of 89 days.
