The Rukungiri District Principal Commercial Officer (PDCO) Caroline Atuhaire has warned loan seekers to rely on SACCOs over money lenders to avoid extortion and embarrassment.
She made the appeal on 7th April 2026, in her remarks during the 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Rwenshaka SACCO in Ruhinda Sub County, Rukungiri District.
Caroline highlighted the growing number of complaints at the Resident District Commissioner’s (RDC) office and called on loan seekers to rely on SACCOs for lower interest rates and better bargaining power.
She further acknowledged the stability of Rwenshaka SACCO with remarkable profits, condemned multiple loan borrowers risking default, and urged upcoming SACCOs to withstand competition from big SACCOs and aim at service delivery.
The Chairperson Board of Rwenshaka SACCO, Henry Mugarura, expressed gratitude for the rise and shine of Rwenshaka SACCO, with over 150 million shillings in profit, expansion of membership from 702 to 807, and an improved loan portfolio last year. He pledged to continue defending clients’ money against embezzlement to restore the SACCO’s glory and criticized LC1 chairpersons for knowingly stamping multiple loan borrowers and burdening SACCO operators.
The External Auditor, Joseph Atamba of Obed Associates Mbarara, consoled clients to stop bias against Rwenshaka SACCO due to the previous decline and trust it for swift development, citing last year’s remarkable profits and adherence to rules and regulations.
The SACCO clients, Daphine Batungire, Denis Nabimanya, and Joseph Kabiso, expressed confidence in the stability of their SACCO and renewed trust in its support.
