Rwenanuura Catholic Church, a 43-year-old place of worship in Katojo Parish, was officially renamed St. Adrian Catholic Church during a special Boxing and St. Stephen’s Day service led by Father Crispino Mubangizi.

In his homily, Fr. Mubangizi encouraged Christians to deepen their faith through prayer and emulate the character and virtues of Christ to overcome life’s challenges. Reflecting on the significance of St. Stephen’s Day, he described St. Stephen as the first Christian martyr and one of seven holy deacons who championed justice for widows and the needy. “His story teaches us patience, compassion for the less privileged, and the spirit of sacrifice,” Fr. Mubangizi said.

He also highlighted the values of Boxing Day, urging Christians to demonstrate love, kindness, and generosity through acts of giving, which he said embody the true meaning of the day.
Speaking about the renaming, Fr. Mubangizi expressed hope that the new name would inspire believers to seek God’s intercession through St. Adrian, a revered holy prophet and lawyer. “St. Adrian will serve as a spiritual bridge, carrying the prayers and intentions of the faithful to God,” he said.
Twebaze Rwamburara Darius, the church chairperson, shared his joy and gratitude for the milestone, thanking the late Rwakiseeta Adrian and other founders, including John Bakeine and William Mufundi, for their dedication to the church’s establishment and growth. He pledged continued efforts to elevate the church to parish status.

During the service, Rwakiseeta Adrian, one of the church’s founding benefactors, expressed his gratitude to God for the journey so far. He credited the church’s success to peace, patience, and an unwavering passion for God. He encouraged the youth to remain humble, obedient to God’s commands, and motivated by the wisdom of their elders.

The event was marked by joy, reflection, and a renewed commitment to faith and community. St. Adrian Catholic Church now embarks on a new chapter, rooted in its rich history and inspired by its spiritual patron.
