Rwashamaire High School Celebrates 2025 UCE Results as Parents Urged to Embrace Education of Their Children

The celebrations were held on Tuesday at the school premises in Rwashamaire Town Council and involved teachers, some parents, board members, and former students who completed UCE in 2025. The celebrations aimed at strengthening students’ confidence—both for those wishing to continue to A Level and those joining other learning institutions.

Addressing the students and teachers at the function, Mr. Elitha Mwesigye, the Headteacher, praised the efforts of the school authorities in improving the academic performance of their students. He revealed that the school ranked 4th in Kajara County, 10th in the district, and 710th in the country, showing significant improvement. All 132 students who registered and sat for the UCE performed well and qualified to join higher institutions of learning.

Speaking to our reporter about the adoption of the new curriculum by both learners and teachers, Elitha acknowledged that teachers are trained to equip learners with advanced skills, especially in practical and project work. He, however, urged the government to ensure the release of new A Level curriculum textbooks, as most schools still use old textbooks to teach the new curriculum.

Director Mwikaranga Gerald praised the Lord for the outstanding results, noting that this was the second cohort of learners sitting under the new curriculum. He expressed concern that the government does not sufficiently support private schools, despite their contribution to educating citizens, employing teaching and non-teaching staff, purchasing foodstuffs from communities, and contributing to revenue collections.

Mwikaranga Gerald stated that most private schools invest heavily in textbooks, which are costly and difficult to access. He appealed to the Ministry of Education and Sports and the government to contribute to private schools in terms of textbooks and other learning materials, especially for the new curriculum.

The Board of Governors’ Academic Chairperson, Mr. Parde, expressed his gratitude for the overwhelming performance in the recently released UNEB UCE results. He attributed this to staff unity, supervision of teachers, and class roll calls ensuring timely attendance of both learners and teachers. He urged parents to enroll their children in schools they can afford. Furthermore, he encouraged Senior 4 leavers to return to their former schools to maintain good performance and academic discipline, citing that changing schools in A Level may result in poor performance since the two-year duration makes it difficult for learners to adjust to a new environment and school culture.

Students, led by Patience Kyemigisha, expressed gratitude to the teachers who contributed to their excellent performance, noting that this motivation comes from the fact that all students who sat for the exams now qualify to join higher institutions of learning
