Residents of Rushasha Parish in Nyakagyeme Sub-county, particularly those in Mashongora, have today come out to raise concerns over electricity and water scarcity challenges in the area while speaking during the campaign rally of the Rukungiri District WMP aspirant, Hon. Turyahikayo Kebirungi Mary Paula, and the Rukungiri LC5 Chairperson aspirant, Andrewson Katebire Charles.

Speaking during the rally, the Rushasha Parish woman councillor, Mrs. Medius Mbagasira, announced their endorsement of Hon. Mary Paula ahead of the forthcoming general elections, citing many challenges, most especially the unaddressed incomplete electricity project and extension, lack of clean water, poor roads, lack of improved facilities at Mashongora Primary School, and the shortage of women group empowerment.

With a lot of hope, they kindly asked Hon. Mary Paula to formulate the best combination with Andrewson Katebire Charles to deliver services and immediately start working on their concerns after being declared victors in their seats.

George Binamatsiko, the Rushasha Parish councilor representing at the sub-county level, who is also the area PDM mobilizer, hailed and praised Hon. Mary Paula and Charles Andrewson Katebire for being leaders of service delivery and corruption fighters in Rukungiri, declared their endorsement in Nyakagyeme Sub-county ahead of the forthcoming elections, and requested them to complete the unfinished Rujumbura electricity project and the Kahengye water project.

The Rwencweera LC1 Chairperson, Bernard Beebwa, also expressed frustrations over the failure of the electricity project in the area, which has taken seven years without being completed. He also spoke about the failure of the Kahengye water project which was meant to serve clean water in Nyakagyeme and Rukungiri District at large. With a broken heart, he kindly called upon Hon. Paula to join with Katebire Charles to address the projects.

In response, Hon. Turyahikayo Mary Paula Kebirungi expressed sympathy towards the affected residents struggling without essential services; however, she urged them to use the chance of the forthcoming 2026 general elections to vote for serious leaders who aim at economic development and service delivery.

She criticized some fellow leaders who are reported to be casting rumours and making defamatory statements calling her an old person instead of presenting their manifestos and what they have done for the people while in office. With commitment, she announced her delegation to empower youth enterprises and skills by lobbying for a tertiary institution in Rujumbura, including other essential services, mostly electricity, clean water, and improved roads.
