Residents of Rushasha Parish in Nyakagyeme Subcounty, Rukungiri District, are in panic and feeling helpless after heavy storms hit their area this evening, causing widespread destruction of crops and property.

The strong winds and heavy rains, which struck the area for the second time in just a week, have left many residents devastated.

Midred Kwetegyeka, a resident of Burera Cell, expressed her frustration while speaking to a Boona FM reporter. She lamented the destruction caused by the storm, noting that it had wiped out their crops, animals, and properties, leaving them empty-handed.

Evas Beyendera, the LC1 Chairperson of Rugando in Rushasha Parish, also voiced her distress. Speaking alongside other affected residents, she confirmed that the storm had ravaged the entire parish, leaving them desperate for help.

Joyce Tusingwire, the LC1 Chairperson of Katungu, shared her concerns about the disaster. While attending a burial at a trading center when the storm struck, she expressed deep worry for her family back home and the extensive damage to crops, particularly coffee.

Abudalaziz Mutungi, a resident of Katonya Cell, also described the severe impact of the storm, which destroyed crops such as beans, bananas, and coffee. He appealed to the government for urgent assistance, noting that the ice from the hailstorm would take at least two days to fully melt.

Residents are calling on authorities to intervene and provide relief as they struggle to recover from the devastating effects of the storm.
