The National Water and Sewerage Corporation Rukungiri branch has revealed that the current water crisis in Nyakagyeme and Rukungiri municipality has been brought about by the severing of water pipes along the Kanungu -Rukungiri road which is under construction.
According to Emily Kamaranzi the acting manager of the National Water and sewerage Corporation Rukungiri branch, water supply was affected in several areas in Rukungiri municipality and Nyakagyeme were and it is difficult to relocate the pipes since the road is still under construction.
Paul Kahiigi the public relations officer at National water and Sewerage Corporation in charge of western region said Kahengye water project is complete although there are still afew issues that will soon be resolved to enable the project fully provide stable water supply to people in Rukungiri .
He added that after the completion of road construction works, new water pipes will be installed which will provide stable water supply in most sub counties in Rukungiri and some areas of Ntungamo.
This came after Hon Annet Mugisha the Bushenyi district woman MP, who is born in Rukungiri, raised concern about the number of phone calls she receives about the acute water shortage that has hit the people of Nyakagyeme and other areas
