The authorities of Rukungiri District Scouts have announced plans to develop their camping ground in Marumba Trading Center, Southern Division, Rukungiri Municipality. In 1958, Rukungiri District acquired a piece of land measuring over 18 acres in Marumba Trading Center, originally used for Scouts competitions in the Kigezi Region, which had remained unused but open to public access. After legal disputes with encroachers, the land was recently cleared and granted a land title.

Ms. Alice Nyinamahoro, the Chief Commissioner of the Uganda Scouts Association, praised the District Scouts authorities for reclaiming the land. She pledged support for its development, donating 100 bags of cement and urging community backing to maximize its rental potential.

Mr. Bamukunda Batukura Patrick, the Rukungiri District Scouts Commissioner, detailed plans to transform the site into a recreational center featuring commercial buildings, conference rooms, a golf course, a swimming pool, and tourist attractions.

Gertrude Tushemereirwe, Vice Chairperson of the Rukungiri District Scouts Council, emphasized efforts to elevate standards ahead of the upcoming National Scouts competitions in Kaazi, aiming to replicate past victories where Rukungiri District won the trophy three consecutive times.

Enoth Akankwatsa Kayanda, Chief Trainer of Rukungiri District Scouts, encouraged students to uphold high standards and called on parents to support their children in preparation for the National competitions scheduled for August 23, 2024, at the National Camping Site in Kaazi.

Obadia Tusiime, a Scouts teacher at Makobore High School in Kinyasano, urged parents to promote scouting among their children, highlighting its numerous benefits.

In district-level competitions, Kyabugashe High School emerged as the top achiever in the Boys’ Venture category with 490 points, followed by Kashenyi Secondary School with 478 points. In the Girls’ category, St. Paul’s Vocational School in Buyanja led with 493 points, followed by St. Gerald’s Secondary School Nyakibale with 487 points in the Municipality, closely followed by Makobore High School Kinyasano with 500 points.
