As we count one week after the reopening of schools for the second term, different school administrators have revealed that the enrollment in their schools is still low compared to what they had in the first term.
Some of the head teachers from Bwambara and Nyakishenyi sub-counties who preferred anonymity said the number of pupils that have reported in their schools is still low hence urging the leaders to conduct serious sensitization, and engagement meetings with parents to help the learners report back to school.
However, according to Robert Gumisiriza the head teacher of Kagati primary school in Buyanja sub-county, his school during the first term had over 328 pupils and so far they have recorded 301.
He says parents should value and prioritize the education of their children explaining that the second term determines a lot about the performance of their children since a lot of work is covered during the second term.
Canon Wycliffe Mackey Twinomujuni the Kashenyi secondary school head teacher in Ruhinda sub-county says at least a big number of his students have reported back to school because they always do beginning-of-term exams and a retreat of students which helps them record a good turn-up early.
Twinomujuni asked parents to value the education of their children for a better future.
According to the Ministry of Education and Sports calendar, the second term that started on May 29, 2023, will end on August 25, 2023.
