The Judiciary’s Communications Officer, Mr. Deo Akugizibwe, has encouraged residents of Rubabo County in Rukungiri District to make use of the Nyarushanje Grade 1 Magistrate’s Court to address and eliminate offenses in their community. In a one-day workshop held on Monday, Akugizibwe emphasized the importance of understanding how the court operates.

During the workshop, participants were educated on the small claims procedure. Akugizibwe urged residents to leverage the Nyarushanje court to resolve monetary disputes, specifying that the program is designed for cases involving amounts not exceeding 10 million Ugandan Shillings.

Furthermore, Akugizibwe provided insights into the process of reclaiming money paid to the judiciary for bail. He highlighted that many individuals neglect to pursue the reimbursement of bail funds, resulting in a significant amount of unclaimed money within the judiciary.

Residents were also informed about the upcoming implementation of the Electronic Court Case Management Information System (ECCMIS), a digital platform aimed at streamlining case handling. Akugizibwe expressed hope that this digital system would alleviate the need for frequent physical appearances in court.

Mbabazi Mary Edith, the Chief Magistrate of Rukungiri, commended judiciary officials for focusing on educating Nyarushanje Grade 1 Magistrate’s Court users about court processes. She noted that there is a lack of awareness among the public regarding court procedures and appreciated the efforts to address this gap.

Additionally, Akello Welborne, the Magistrate of Nyarushanje Grade 1 Court, reported success with the small claims procedure, stating that people in the area are actively seeking resolution for monetary matters through the court.
