The Rukungiri Resident District commissioner Steven Nsubuga Bewayo yesterday 12/08/22 refused to commission a project worth UGX 89M over shoddy work.

The project at Katungu Primary school located in Nyakabugo wars Buyanja subcounty constructed by TICOL Construction Company Ltd comprising 2 blocks each containing 2 classrooms and 2 pit latrines for both boys and girls, was to be commissioned yesterday but owing to defects, the RDC postponed the exercise until the contractor rectifies the defects

According to Annet Keneeza, the school head teacher, pupils especially those using new buildings suffer especially when it rains as the roof leaks

Other defects included cracks on building floors, and poorly constructed places of inconvenience where urine cannot get into latrine but meanders   outside, putting the lives of pupils at risk of   infections.

Agaba Emmy Rubondo, the Buyanja sub county LC 3 Chairperson blamed the shoddy work on insufficient supervision and called authorities to always employ people from the locality.

Geoffrey Kyomukama, the LC5 chairperson for Rukungiri district, said   leaders  will ensure that the defects are corrected.

Eng. Julius Bagira, the district Engineer said that the contractor will not be fully paid the outstanding balance on the works if   defects are not corrected

The function was also attended by Christopher Wachaya, the rukungiri DISO, and James Turyamubona, the Rukungiri district speaker.
