Poultry farmers around Rukungiri District have been encouraged to embrace farm record keeping if they are to benefit from the business.

The call was made today by Emmanuel Arihoona, the Sales Manager for Uzima Chicken Company in the South Western Uganda region, representing Kanungu, Kabale, Rukungiri, Kisoro, Rubanda, and Rukiga districts. This was during an induction training for poultry farmers at Rendezvous Hotel in Rukungiri Municipality today.

According to Arihoona, good record keeping and adopting modern ways of poultry farming will improve production and double their profits. Arihoona highlighted that the company was invented in 2017 in East Africa, originally from Rwanda, to enhance hatchery production across East Africa.

Arinda Gilbert, also from Uzima Company, said the workshop aimed to scrutinize the success of farmers and correct some failures through guidance by experts. He cautioned farmers against misleading propaganda from inexperienced veterinary officers. Arinda encouraged them to aim higher and achieve desired goals in business.

Pastor Grace Makanda Turyahebwa, a poultry farmer from Nyakagyeme subcounty , who has invested in poultry since 2017, highlighted achievements like paying school fees for children, investing in agriculture, as well as improving household income.

Pastor Grace further advised fellow farmers to embrace the use of the internet by advertising through social media handles like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram to improve sales.

Meanwhile, Mr. Emmanuel cautioned farmers against poor feeding of chicks that may lead to stunted growth, costing them losses.
