Persons with disabilities in Rukungiri District are accusing their leadership of personalizing group projects.

The complaints allege that the leadership has failed to provide accountability for the income from the Bwambara resettlement land and reliable information concerning the exchange of this land with the district for the development of an industrial park.

Emmy Turyabagyenyi claims that the land was being used for agriculture without accountability. He further accuses Canon David Mastiko, the group chairperson, of personalizing the land exchange process with the District, going as far as suing the district over delays in issuing the exchanged land, without the consent of group members.

Tananziyo Karuhura revealed a mission to oppose the current leadership in the upcoming elections. He aims to end the monopoly of power that has enabled leaders to make personal decisions, which has broken collaboration between persons with disabilities and the district leadership due to the ongoing court case reported by Canon David Mastiko.

Canon David Mastiko, the group chairperson, defended his court action, claiming it was a response to the District’s failure to issue the agreed plot of land in the exchange process.

Another group member, James Odryoroba, downplayed the accusations, attributing them to politics ahead of the upcoming elections for new leadership.
