The Rukungiri Principal inspector of schools Mrs. Lydia Tushemereirwe has called upon parents to always support schools where their children are to enhance academic standards in Rukungiri district.

She was appealing to teachers, parents, and well-wishers of St Paul’s vocational secondary school Buyanja in Rukungiri district who gathered at the school grounds to celebrate St Paul’s day as Paul is the saint of this school.

She attributed the low performance of government schools to parents who don’t want to support schools financially to up on the grants from the government.

Tushemereirwe said parents are mandated to employ private teachers in case of shortage, renovate school buildings, buy food for both teachers and their children, and visit schools to see the learning conditions of their children.

Naboth Namanya the Rubabo county MP who was the guest of honor asked parent advised parents to avoid giving their children lots of money that can lure them into bad acts.

He also asked parents not to give their children Phones because phones corrupt their minds and they end up losing trucks.

He challenged parents especially those who have children in S.4 to encourage them to work hard, noting that this year, if a S. 4 candidate fails UNEB, he or she will be forced to begin S. 1 to cope with the new curriculum.

Patrick Tuhaisomujuni the school head teacher said they are struggling to deal with high costs of food that are giving them a hard time to feed learners.
However, in a Saint Paul’s Day mass, Fr. Silverino Karugaba alias Fr. KARUS, the former chaplain of this school who is the parish priest of Buhara parish Kabale diocese said St Paul is remembered for the God’s work he did like several books he wrote in the Bible.

He challenged parents to play their role of paying school dues for their children not be disturbed while at school.
