Security officials in Rukungiri have announced plans to enhance security measures to curb rising crime and insecurity during the ongoing trade show at Rukungiri Main Stadium. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Musa Tibakirana, the Rukungiri District Police Commander, stated that police will be deployed both inside and outside the stadium, as well as throughout Rukungiri town, in response to an increase in reported crimes linked to the trade show.

SSP Tibakirana revealed that police had conducted preliminary visits around the stadium to strategize optimal deployment aimed at reducing incidents such as phone theft and other criminal activities in Rukungiri town.

Additionally, Tibakirana mentioned that several phone thieves are already in police custody and that investigations are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the murder of an unidentified man found behind Rukungiri Main Stadium.

Wilberforce Ahimbisibwe Ongom, the Rukungiri District Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), urged residents to remain vigilant, especially when attending trade shows and other festivals at night. He emphasized the importance of walking in groups or with a companion to enhance safety. Ongom highlighted a recent incident on Sunday morning, where an unidentified murder victim was discovered and taken to Rwakabengo Health Center III mortuary as investigations continue. 

Organizers of the trade show are also being urged to implement adequate safety measures to protect attendees.
