Police in Rukungiri district are investigating a case of forgery involving the NRM district registrar, who is accused of manipulating official election results.
According to a statement issued by Kigezi Region Police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate, the suspect, Wright Mwongyera, aged 36 and a resident of Rushoroza “A” Cell in Rwerere Sub County, allegedly forged the final declaration form for the 2025 Rubabo County NRM parliamentary primaries for the male seat.
The incident reportedly occurred on the night of July 19, 2025, at the Rukungiri District main hall.
The complainant, Hon. Alex Rugonde, a 40-year-old businessman from Buyanja Sub-County, claims that Mwongyera, who also serves as the GISO, signed and altered the official results with the intent to defraud and deceive.
Police say a case file was opened and forwarded to the Resident State Attorney for legal guidance. The file was later sanctioned, and the suspect is expected to appear in court to face relevant charges.
Investigations are ongoing.
