Rukungiri Municipality Member of Parliament, Dr. Elisa Rutahigwa, has dismissed allegations that he was paid to support the NRM flag bearer, Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
Dr. Rutahigwa, who had initially expressed interest in seeking a second term, clarified that his decision to step down was made independently and was not influenced by anyone.
He explained that for the sake of unity and continued development in Rukungiri Municipality, he chose to allow Gen. Tumukunde to continue with several ongoing projects, including the completion of the maternity ward at Rukungiri Health Centre IV, the maternity ward at Rwakabengo Health Centre III, and the improvement of Rukungiri Municipality roads, among others.
Dr. Rutahigwa, however, revealed his intention to contest again for the same seat in the 2031–2036 elections, saying he will give the people of Rukungiri Municipality another opportunity to decide. He urged residents to rally behind the NRM flag bearer, Gen. Tumukunde, if they wish to see sustained development in the area.
