Rukungiri Municipality Health Department has today launched two major projects aimed at expanding access, improving quality, and restoring dignity in healthcare service delivery.

The launch took place at Rwakabengo Health Centre II and Kitimba Health Centre III, led by Dr. Davis Ahabwe, the Rukungiri Municipal Health Officer, alongside Assistant RDC Madam Mabel Mirembe Karazarwe and several municipal councilors.

The first project involves the remodeling and expansion of Rwakabengo Mortuary, valued at UGX 51 million, awarded to Ngabi Traders Contractors. According to Engineer Ameria Ainembabazi, the Rukungiri Municipality Civil Engineer, the project will include an additional room with shelves for body storage and a refrigerator for preservation. The works are expected to be completed within four months.

The second project focuses on exterior works at Kitimba Health Centre III, including constructing a retaining wall to prevent water damage, paving walkways, and beautifying the compound with flowers and trees. This project, worth UGX 59 million, has been awarded to Rwenkurijo Building Contractors.

Dr. Ahabwe said the health department is also monitoring the ongoing functionalization of Rukungiri Health Centre IV, emphasizing that these efforts aim to improve access and ensure quality healthcare for all Ugandans. He commended health workers for their dedication, describing their work as “a calling to serve humanity.”

Meanwhile, Assistant RDC Mabel Mirembe Karazarwe urged contractors to adhere to project standards and deliver quality work. She appreciated the government’s continued support for development in the health sector and encouraged hospital management teams to monitor ongoing projects closely.

These new projects mark a significant step toward improving healthcare infrastructure and service delivery across Rukungiri Municipality.
