The territorial police in Kisoro District have launched investigations into a violent incident that occurred on 12th November 2025 at around 5:00 PM at Gasiza Trading Centre, Nyarusiza Sub County, following political clashes between supporters of two rival politicians.
According to preliminary police reports, the confrontation erupted as Hon. Sam Bitangaro and his team were heading to a rally at Kwanyakwezi Trading Centre. Along the way, they were allegedly attacked by supporters of Hon. Alex Niyonsaba, who were armed with pangas, bottles, and sticks.
During the attack, three individuals — Tumwesigye Nelson, Habyarimana Silvan, and Sibomana Ronald — sustained injuries and were immediately evacuated to hospital for medical attention.
The District Police Commander (DPC) for Kisoro, upon receiving the information, quickly responded to the scene, rescuing victims and restoring order. The area has since been visited and documented by the territorial police as part of ongoing investigations.
Police have identified some suspects linked to the assault, and efforts are underway to have them arrested and prosecuted.
ASP Maate Elly, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, confirmed the incident, emphasizing that inquiries are ongoing to ensure that all perpetrators are brought to book and that peace is maintained during the ongoing political activities in the region.
