Months after celebrating 33 years of marriage with his beloved wife Monica Kashumbusha, Mr. Lawrence Kashumbusha, fondly known as “Tycoon,” has gone to be with the Lord.
A resident of Kagarama Village, Western Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Tycoon breathed his last this evening while being rushed to Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Earlier in the day, he had visited Kalori Lwanga Hospital Nyakibale for a medical review, where doctors recommended his referral to Mbarara as his condition continued to worsen.
It is believed that Tycoon, who has been battling high blood pressure in recent months, suffered a sudden complication that led to his passing.
Tycoon, an ardent supporter of the NRM, celebrated 33 years of marriage with Monica in December 2024 in a colorful ceremony at Christ the King Church in Rukungiri Municipality. The couple later hosted a joyful reception at their home—an event that many now describe as a farewell party.
Boona FM Managing Director, Mr. Maanige Wenceslas, called the death of Tycoon a great tragedy. “True, he has died and he has been my right-hand man. Tycoon was a loyal friend with whom I have walked a long journey,” he said.
Among the mourners is Counsel Isaac Atukunda, an aspirant in the recently concluded NRM parliamentary flag bearer elections for Rukungiri Municipality, who described Tycoon as “a friend to many.” In a message shared across different platforms, Isaac wrote:
“I have with profound sadness learnt about the untimely death of our NRM Chairperson for Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, Mr. Lawrence Kashumbusha, aka Tycoon.
Tycoon has been a friend to many and a very devoted Catholic who served his church diligently.
He was a committed NRM member who selflessly served both party members and the entire Rukungiri community.
Rukungiri Municipality has lost a great pillar and a very useful man.”
Mr. Morrison Rwakakamba, former Chairperson of the Uganda Investment Authority, has also mourned the deceased, describing him as a steadfast member of the National Resistance Movement who greatly promoted the party in Rukungiri.
“Mr. Lawrence Kashumbushya, popularly known as Tycoon, the NRM Chairperson for Eastern Division, Rukungiri Municipality, is gone!
I first met Tycoon in 2005 when I campaigned and won unopposed as the inaugural NRM Youth League Chairman for Rukungiri District. Tycoon supported me and worked with me throughout my tenure.
He has been a steadfast member of @NRMOnline who consistently and relentlessly promoted the programs of the Movement in Rukungiri. He will be deeply missed.
May his soul rest within the gates of heavenly peace.”
Burial will take place at his ancestral home in Rukungiri Municipality on a date yet to be harmonized.
