The Grade One Magistrate’s Court in Rukungiri, presided over by His Worship Gonzaga Mbalangu, has today, 17th September, adjourned the case against former Rukungiri District NRM Registrar, Wright Mwongyera, who is accused of manipulating results in the Rubabo County NRM primary elections.
According to the complainant, Bob Rugonde, Mwongyera allegedly declared Mathias Rwabugumi Mwesigwa as the party’s flag bearer on orders from above, despite results from eight polling stations in Buyanja and Kebisoni areas not being tallied.
During a previous court session on 28th July, Mwongyera was granted bail after presenting substantial sureties. The court considered his status as a married man with two children and the family’s breadwinner. His sureties included his father, Henry Ngateireyo (68), his uncle, Garshom Mutungura (51), and a neighbour, Mpamize (73), all residents of Rushoroza A Cell, Rushoroza Ward, Rwerere Town Council in Rukungiri District.
As part of the bail conditions, Mwongyera was restricted from traveling outside Rukungiri without official permission from the court.
However, during today’s session, the complainant, Mr. Rugonde, was absent without explanation. The court consequently adjourned the case to 17th November 2025, when both the complainant and the defendant are expected to appear for further mention.
