Rukungiri leaders vow interest and collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government over the forthcoming LC1 and LC2 elections, call voters to be wise and choose important local leaders.
Recently, the Ministry of Local Government through its Permanent Secretary, Mr. Raphael Magezi, announced the election of LC1s, LC2s and Women Councils in 70,000 villages countrywide to be held this forthcoming March.
Speaking with Boona Radio, some of the leaders who are led by the Buyanja Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Mr. Agaba Emmy Rubondo, came to support the decision of electing these cell local leaders, amplifying that the chain steps of leadership were not clear enough since ten years had passed before electing them.
He said that in the last ten years before their elections were renewed, some passed away earlier, others grew old, some have been arrogantly misusing the office and others lost the morale of professional leadership, feeling to voluntarily surrender from leadership.
The Rukungiri District outgoing Chairperson LC5, Geofry Kyomukama, also extended gratitude and collaboration towards the Local Council One and Two elections. However, he called upon all residents to get involved and engaged in the activity and support those who are interested and committed to fully serve responsibly in the office.
Having had some LC1s who died, migrated to other places and others who grew old, he warned residents to vote wisely and elect capable leaders, commending the LC1 chairperson’s office to be the foundation of Uganda’s local government and area development.
Meanwhile, the Rukungiri District RDC, Brone Kinkashemeza, also expressed concern about the increase of domestic issues in some areas, blaming some LC1 chairpersons who have completely failed to settle disputes and instead chose to support civil crimes out of conflicts of interest and corruption. He said that this has brought a lot of burden to upper leadership such as the LC3 chairperson’s office and heads of security.
He commended the LC1 chairperson’s office as the foundation of the government and development, therefore urging whoever is given the opportunity to take charge of the office after elections to handle it carefully, stand on truth and facts without any corruption and bribery, which he said will engineer Uganda’s local government social-economic transformation and development.
